QCOs Are Helping MSMEs Make Better Products and Win Consumer Trust: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, June 28, 2025 — Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) introduced by the government are helping micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) improve their product standards and gain greater trust from consumers.

In a recent post on social media platform X, the minister shared that he had held a consultation meeting with MSME stakeholders to discuss how these quality standards are being implemented across sectors. According to Goyal, MSMEs appreciated the positive impact of QCOs and how they are helping businesses deliver better products that meet both domestic and international expectations.

“They shared how these quality standards have increased customer satisfaction and helped their businesses grow. I welcomed their suggestions to make the process of setting standards more inclusive and easy to follow,” Goyal posted.

He also said that these efforts align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Zero Defect, Zero Effect’, encouraging industries to manufacture responsibly and with high standards.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has been regularly issuing QCOs to restrict the entry of sub-standard products into the Indian market and to protect consumer interests. These regulations also push local manufacturers to meet better benchmarks and compete globally.

To support this quality movement, the government has been working on improving testing infrastructure, creating product manuals, and expanding the reach of accredited laboratories. As part of this effort, the Quality Council of India (QCI) recently launched a new digital portal for the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). This portal is aimed at making the accreditation process faster and more accessible, especially for MSMEs.

These developments are a part of India’s broader effort to strengthen local manufacturing and ensure that ‘Made in India’ stands for quality, reliability, and global standards.
